I have not found any existing threads on Okhotnik, but it does sound like a fun boat. Any opinions and tips from veteran players in regards to this ship would be highly appreciated, thanks!
Seriously, if you can wait and position yourself to use islands as cover, or attack (by getting close) when your allies are distracting the reds you will fare much better. Going in by yourself, or in the lead, won't work too well.
Also on the Okhotnik remember your guns are pretty good, so if you can't sneak up on the enemy, maybe hang back at first and hunt the enemy's incoming DDs ... then go on the offensive.

It’s an ambusher, which isnt a common role in this game. Can be very fun to play and equally frustrating. Worth buying imo, but only if you can handle cruisers and destroyers well. Check out this thread wowsblitz.boards.net/thread/75/okhotnik

Her AP is great at crushing enemy Destroyers and Light Cruisers. Those guns have good range and rate of fire even if the traverse is a bit slow.
And once you get to knife fighting ranges those torpedoes are magic. I’ve had multiple games with mid to high 20s torpedo hits. Sure, she’s basically a suicide attacker if you want to spray torpedoes. But the Okhotnik is just so good at it that it’s worth the risk.

All I’m saying is would you rather play competively in an Okhotnik or a Nicholas, Mutsuki or Kamakazi? I just think that she’s VERY situational and limited.
