I ran both steering mods and main battery reload , anything to get you into position to deal with DD’s ASAP. Load HE at the beginning, I never unload it until I know the destroyers have been dealt with. Typically in the New York, position yourself to confront the dd’s/guard cap as needed. The New Mexico is awesome, New York is worth it.
I strongly disliked the NY, but I went up the IJN BB line first which explains my disdain for the NY. She's a barge plain and simple, don't try to be fancy and kongo-like and play her outside-in. Gotta play her middle out b/c with her (lack of) speed you aren't able to relocate so you have to go to where you won't have to really move much but see plenty of reds.

I also agree with Seawolf, the New York is not great. New Mexico however is a tier 6 beast played correctly. I felt that all of the American battleships until the New Mexico were very weak. It gets A LOT better from there.
IJN>>>>>>>>>>>>>USN BB"s till 8 then I'd say they're on equal ish footing, slight edge to the NC.
What’choo talkin’about Willis?
You’re claiming that the tinfoil coated Fuso is better than New Mexico? That the Cruiser class AA on Nagato helps make her better than Colorado?
Fuso is a dog. All those twin turrets spread down the length of the ship give you horrible dispersion. She’s got no armor anywhere that matters. I can’t count the number of citadels I’ve scored on Fusos with 8” AP. Her AA battery is WWI quality at best. And being 3 knots faster than the American barges is meaningless when your turning circle is the size of Belgium and your turret rotation can’t even keep up with that.
Nagato is arguably “almost” as good as Colorado. But her main battery AP shells and armor let her down. With a Colorado I’ll hit a Nagato with 3-7 penetrating 16” shells at near max range. The return salvo almost never comes close to the same number of hits or loses some oomph when the AP shells shatter. At secondary battery range it comes closer to even. But since Japanese fire & flooding control and citadel armor are so piss poor, odds are that Nagato will have a much smaller health pool by the time she gets to secondary range. And if there are torpedoes in the water I’ll definately prefer Colorado’s better anti-torpedo stats and quicker helm response.
Up to V the Japanese have the advantage because speed and bigger bore secondaries are much more important in the Destroyer dominated meta of the low Tiers. After that? They trail till Yamato and I’ve no clue if she’s any good or just scary.

Agility. The 12 14” guns on the NM loaded with HE combined with her turn rate let you absolutely smash all of those destroyers, secondaries are good as well. Her armor is pretty good . Colorado gets 16” guns... although I admit I skipped her, blueprints ....
Every moment of pain in the earlier USN BBs is worth it. I thought the North Carolina was good. She may as well be the Wyoming.
The first game I was just short of 130k damage. Fifty-seven main battery hits generated five citadels. The 106 5” hits started 6 fires. I sank 2 Amagis and an Ibuki.

Skipped the New Mex (have the 'zona tho) so I can't speak about her per say but if you ask me which I prefer; the Fuso or 'Zona I'd say Fuso. The slow lumbering playstyle of the New Mex/Zona/Colorado is painful to me and in this meta where speed matters they fall behind. I'm not saying they're bad ships but they are not flexible in their playstyle at all. Biggest reason I rate the Fuso/Nag above their counterparts is b/c of their ability to flex. Need to quickly relocate? It's not gonna be in the USN line that's for dang sure. Now if I get the Colorado elited I might feel differently but right now? She falls far behind the Naggy imo.
And maybe you just need to see what a good player can do in a Nagato
And eh armor doesn't mean much in Blitz anyways its all damage reduction (Which is insanely stupid).

The New Mexico is much better than the Arizona. She has wartime AA refits and better fire control (ie. I get more hits with her guns than with Arizona’s) so she lives longer and hits harder.
I honestly doubt that a 3 knot per hour difference means a damned thing when you’ve got guns that reach 14.5 km. If a friendly is still alive in the area I can rain down 14-16” HE long before that comes into play. . My one caveat is that with any of the upper Tier boats you MUST buy the Historical Camouflage. It’s any obvious cash grab feature, but the buffs are well worth the wallet weakening. And it is a grab. The camo on Iowa was 5,000 gold (about $15 USD). But 4% longer range and 4% less dispersion plus 4% HP and 6% torpedo protection as well as a 35% XP bonus are huge at that level. Yes, I’m mostly trying to justify to myself that I spent $15 on changing the colors of some pixels.

Oh I feel ya it is but like you said the benefits are worth it. I got them for the Naggy/Amagi and they're both very helpful. And dunno to *me* it does make a difference and the Nagato seems more nimble than the Colorado.
