What I was most interested in his video was the insight on how to be successful playing DDs: scout and cap, and play a role as support for your teammates. Don’t over-extend and fight alone. Torp ships by taking advantage of distracted reds shooting at other greens. Good stuff.
Who wants to share their successful battle strategy sailing cruisers? I am playing the Furutaka and Aoba right now, and I can’t make them rule at the moment. In fact, I actually want to throw my iPhone against the nearest wall when I use them.
You will ALWAYS feel that way running the Aoba. She is outclassed in spades by every other Tier VI cruiser. The Myoko is worth it but be warned , Tier VII is flooded with horrible players playing Sims and just bad play period, it’s also full of strong ships captained by VERY good players usually rolling in triple platoons taking advantage of scrubs. Sims is terrible BTW. Just saying.
The Sims is far from terrible. She has longer ranged torps than the Mahan and a smaller detection range. And with the AA boost she makes an excellent escort for friendly Japanese DDs and their joke AA.

Have to agree to disagree on that. Her torpedoes go 51 knots. A Kamikaze destroyer can keep up with the torpedoes pretty much. Have fun hitting anything with torps that slow. Battleships can literally dodge them unless you launch them beside the target. In which case, you’re probably dead. Good guns? Four fast firing 5” guns. Want something with good guns? Drive a CA. I have NEVER seen a Sims driver come in first .... typically , they struggle to break 5K damage and/or survive the first minute of the match. Granted, that’s your typical nub buying a Tier VII with NO idea how to play.

I wouldn't say Sim is that bad: I have seen plenty of Sim players reach 20-40k damage and the good ones even more. It probably it down to the fact that Mahan and Akatsuki are overall better torpedo boats and the game rewards you for dealing massive damage to ships. And in this case, guns generally on DDs do not do as much damage as torpedoe so gun focused DDs unless it is a DD heavy game will struggle a bit.
Stilll, that smoke and DFAA makes her a decent team player and if you do manage to hit with all your torpedoes any enemy cruiser and destroyer is going to have a bad day

Yep. My Aoba is very close to being rage-sold. I have a 16% WR after 6 battles. The Aoba does one thing well: go fast. It’s traverse and acceleration are weak; on par with my Kongo. The torpedo firing arc is super narrow, and six 203mm guns that are worthless against BBs.
