Disclaimer: This is my first time posting so please excuse any poor etiquette.
I've only just been playing Houshou, but I honestly feel like carriers in general (that don't have 2 torp squads at least) have a low skill ceiling. There are those times where I send all your planes out land every single bomb and torpedo, but fail to sink that BB.
As Houshou, having only 2 squads feels very limiting. In one run with TB, I can deal about 5000 damage if I land ALL torpedoes. This is only 1/5th the hp of most BB in tier 4. Compared to WoWS pc, this damage feels very insignificant. Especially with how the planes have to return to my ship. It feels like a longer BB reload time with how the planes have to return to my ship.
Here I will be comparing my performance with Houshou vs my performance with Kawachi; a BB one tier lower than Houshou.
These are a few of my best games in Houshou (Albeit not all of them were wins, and one of them a few bots in them):

This is the only Kawachi battle in my records. I would have more, but it seems the Battle Records doesn't go that far back

And yes, for those with a keen eye. I am using an emulator to take the screenshots (cause I hate transferring photos from my iPhone)
In my other Kawachi games, I could easily reach over 30k damage, usually 40k like in the game I posted above. Reaching 30k is something I struggle to do in my Houshou. And it's not because I'm bad or have no skill with CVs. I am able to consistently land many torps (usually 2-3) each bombing run, which you can see in the stats of my Houshou games (Roughly 12-15 torps hitting every match).
The reason I struggle to reach the 30k threshold is just because of how I'm being limited by the skill ceiling of the carrier. I can only do so much damage with my 2 bomber squads. Unlike in my Kawachi where I am able to assist my team by doing sheer damage through its reliable main batteries.
Someone out there is probably going to say "Well, if you do so well playing BB, then why don't you go down the BB line instead of CV?"
Well, the thing is, I have a preference for CV in any navy based game. I prefer the more RTS feel of CV in WoW over the aim and shoot Action style of other class of ships.
The reason why I'm sort of generalising CVs in this thread is because I've had a look into all CVs in both USN and IJN. What I thought would be a saving grace is something like at least 4 planes in a TB squadron or 2 squadrons at that. The problem is... for IJN, they don't get 4 plane TBs or 2 TB squads until Shoukaku. And she is freaking tier EIGHT. USN I won't comment on too much since I don't plan on playing them, nor do I think they share the same playstyle as IJN carriers (which are the ones I prefer).
Ok, I think this post is getting far too long. For this reason, I'll include a TL;DR. Sorry if anything seems disorganised or messy. I just wanted to get all my ideas straight onto a forum post before I forget about them.
TL;DR
I feel that CVs skill ceiling is too low, because there is only so much you can do with 2 sqauds (I'm playing Houshou). I have been able to consistently outdamage my own Houshou performance with my Kawachi. A battleship in tier 3. ONE TIER LOWER THAN HOUSHOU!!! And it's not because I'm bad at landing Torps or anything. If you look into my screenshots of scorescreens, you'll see that I consistently land Torps of up to around 12-15 per game. Another problem is that this situation doesn't seem to improve higher up in the line up until Tier 8. Tier 8 Shoukaku has a reasonable amount of sqauds to control and feels like I'm playing a real RTS. Not like I'm being treating as a baby being handheld and only given 2 bomber squadrons for toys.
