1. It is a reasonably fast ship,
but not enough faster than other DD or even cruisers to make a difference, and it turns like a brick.
2. Your torpedos are SLOW and run like beacons. Your enemy can see them pretty much before you fire, and they are slow enough that an aircraft carrier can dodge them even if you are in the same capture circle as the carrier. Battleships regularly dodge them, cruisers have few problems, and you can only catch a destroyer if they make a mistake.
3. Torpedos often don’t explode. I can’t even count the times I have watched a flight of 4 or 8 torpedos run right through an enemy battleship and NOT explode.
4. Your torpedos are weak. By the time I DO happen to hit a battleship with 12 torpedos, I would certainly expect it to be going down, not sitting there with. Maybe half it’s health gone. You ain’t sinking a BB with the Leningrad.
5.
The 45 second reload time for the poor torpedos is such a long time in the middle of the game. Given that you have 2 set of 4 tubes, you are literally firing maybe 30% of the number of torpedos you could fire from, for instance, a Clemson.
6. You are fragile - 2 torpedos, or a single broadside from a battleship or cruiser is enough to do you in.
7. Worst of all, the Leningrad is a BEACON. The second the game starts everyone on the map knows where you are. If I can be sitting still, not firing, and be getting shelled by 3 different battleships which are so far away I cannot even see them, AND they do not show up on my map, that’s a problem - I can’t even see giant ships which are shooting at me, but they can see my little destroyer?
My win rate on the Samson and Clemson are around 60%
- is the skill level for a level VII ship that much different? Are you supposed to play the Leningrad that much differently than the Samson or Clemson?
