Okaaaaay. I asked if he spent a bunch of money buying crates OR converted XP to Free XP. So I had no confusion as to how you can acquire Free XP, just how he had managed to get enough to skip a Tier VII Battleship and still research a Tier VIII.
How did you get the free XP to skip the Colorado? You’d have to drop a few thousand $$ on crates or play a shit ton of games in Premium ships and convert XP.
My point was there's no need of Premium: As long as your regular ship is Elite, you can convert its XP into FreeXP, which is what I do with my North Carolina to skip Iowa and get Montana.
After 5 days of many too many games I’m down to 44k till the North Carolina. That’s a little over 10k a day which considering the magical ability of most of the green teams to sink themselves at first sight of the enemy doesn’t seem too bad. I’ll have a good game and get 1,500 XP, followed by being teamed with Wide World of Green Idiots for 5 or 6 games and generating 130 XP each.
I really wish you could damage friendlies. It might stop some of these morons from exchanging volleys as we try and flank the enemy. It’s like they enjoy being the first ones spotted and sunk.

They don’t undertand the game mechanics, that firing your guns makes you more easily detected. Honestly , there seems to be no real difference in the vast majority of game play between low and high tiers. Most players want to hop in a game, shoot shoot bang bang game over. That’s all it really is. I DO wish those players would stay at low tiers but that ain’t happening.
It's as easy as noticing that when you fire the dotted circle expands because your detection radius increases by a lot... But noobs don't seem to realize...
Sadly it’s more that they don’t care. They’re always in DDs or low tier Cruisers. And the concepts of the game are so unimportant to them that they fire torpedoes when kilometers out of range, bounce off one another and islands and generally just act like morons.
I ground 30k XP today between many Colorado games and every premium and elite first victory game. So very burned out.
But only 15k to go till the North Carolina will be mine. I even have enough credits for the buy and gold for the camo. I just don’t know if I’ll have the endurance.

Converting free xp from my Midway
To affirm that the aeroplane is going to 'revolutionize' navel warfare of the future is to be guilty of the wildest exaggeration.

Done. I’ve bought and upgraded the North Carolina. Seventy some games in the Colorado and 150-175 in various Premium and Elite ships for Free XP conversion.
I will never again try and power grind a ship. It’s painfully tedious and sucks all the fun out playing. It makes it work instead of play. Going forward ships will advance when they advance. Seems so obvious, but hindsight works that way.

I REALLY want the North Carolina... I’m a native North Carolinian and my wedding band is made from the teak of her original deck. Having said that , I find BB’s the hardest class of ship to win consistently in so far, however I only have up to the New Mexico. In a cruiser or destroyer I can have such an immediate impact in turning the game in my teams favor... BB’s not so much. The Dunkerque btw is awesome but she’s a battlescruiser lumped in as a BB.

When you move up to the Colorado you will see a major jump in your impact on the game. Because the Colorado’s 16” guns are a whole new ball game. You will score citadels on anything you target. Not every time, but a lot more regularly. No more bounces when you use plunging fire against lower tier Battleships. And a single salvo of 16” HE will take ⅔ or more off most Destroyers and Light Cruisers inside of 6-8 km as long as you target midships. Just focus on any upgrade that reduces your reload time.
Then the biggest difference once you do get the NC is speed. You’re much faster than earlier US Battleships and the twin 5” secondary turrets rotate incredibly quickly. You’ll get the cap circles inside the 15 km range of your main battery almost as soon as the game starts. And these 16” rifles are excessively accurate compared to all of the US and IJN 14” boats. It almost feels like you are using one of the 6” German cruisers in terms of shot grouping. Plus you will never again have to worry about a DD outpacing your secondaries. They will always be aimed and ready for the reload.

Gawd, what a boat!
Good to see another NorCar lover LOL! Indeed it is an extraordinary ship for its tier. I have more than 700 battles with it and I can't get enough of it. WR on it has gone above 80% because it's so damn good. And its AA is terrific: you practically create a no-fly zone above your head and it's pretty easy to go close the Clear Sky medal. Historical camouflage, dispersion reduction and torpedo damage reduction make wonders to its already great features.
